A vigil running from sunrise to sunset has opened this year's Poppy Appeal at the Cenotaph. A century on from the outbreak of World War One, the British Legion is calling for a focus on the "future of the living" and the "memory of the fallen". D Day Gunner receives Honoured Citizen Award

This is Gunner Walter George Soper from the Merseyside branch of the RAA.  He is a D day veteran with his 'Honoured Citizen' award which was presented to him by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool.  It was an award presented to all the remaining D Day veterans from all the forces plus the merchant navy that still live in the City of Liverpool and we are all very proud to know him.
