Capt.Young RA meets his local branch of the RAA

Capt.Young RA meets his local branch of the RAA

The Shoeburyness & Essex branch of the Royal Artillery Association visited a Gunner Veteran on behalf of the Association.

Mr Ron Clifton and his wife Pam attended on the Branches behalf:

‘My wife and I spent a couple of hours with Capt. Young and his family at his rest home in Basildon.

The main reason for the visit was that Andy was too frail at nearly 98 to attend the parades in London and his family wished to mark the day somehow.  His daughter had his medals remounted in time for the day and his veteran badge was also obtained.

I presented him with a certificate of outstanding service and a RAA Badge on behalf of the Association.

Tea and cake was forthcoming when we all retired to the garden which was Andy’s first outing this summer.’

Ron and his wife then received this lovely reply from the family of Capt. Young.

Dear Ron, (and Pam)

I just wanted to let you know on behalf of all my family that we really enjoyed meeting you on Saturday. As you saw my Father is pretty frail but he was delighted to meet you and I was not surprised when he made pertinent comments about the need for a spirit level when we talked about the gun!

Thank you again for all your help in making the day work so well and I wish you and your Branch of the Association all the very best for the future and do hope that I will have the pleasure of meeting you again sometime.

Kind regards

Peter Young
