Warning Order - Artilleryfest 2018 is here

After the successful opening of the Royal Artillery Museum Exhibition in Larkhill the Museum bring you Artilleryfest!

The Royal Artillery Museum Chairman and Board of Trustees were delighted that the Master Gunner St James’s Park, Sir Andrew Gregory KCB CB, officially opened a small exhibition of the RA Collection in Larkhill on the 19thJuly 2018.

The opportunity for the exhibition was established with the help of the RSA Commandant, Colonel John Musgrave, who allocated space for a training exhibition of the collection. This allowed the museum to maximise the opportunity by selecting parts of the collection to project the Royal Regiment’s history and artefacts to the serving Regiment, coupled with an outreach programme for veterans and the local community.

The display showcases British cannons and guns over the last 160 years, a Chinese barrel from the 14thcentury, new acquisitions to our Field Marshall Alanbrooke collection (generously donated by his family last year), a display of the 62 Gunner Victoria Cross recipients, a conservation / restoration area and a number of flags and pennants from old artillery units.  The walls are adorned with information on Gunner history and current capabilities, including details of the roles of today’s regiments. Aspects of Gunner history and our future plans are brought to life on four video displays.

Our intent is now to bring the collection to life and involve and engage with the wider Regimental Family. To that end and in conjunction with the Royal School of Artillery, will be having a free Open Day for RA Veterans and their families on Saturday the 20th October 2018 from 10.30am until 3pm at the Royal School of Artillery in Larkhill, Wiltshire, SP4 8QT.

This open day will be called ‘Artilleryfest’ and the intention is to establish a significant annual Gunner reunion event, allowing old friends to meet up and spend the day at the home of the Gunners.

Artilleryfest 2018 will include a static display of modern artillery used by today’s Gunner regiments, a small RA Museum Collection display, the Noon Day Gun firing by the museum display team, the Garrison Artillery Volunteers historical static display, a mobile display with guns firing (blanks), all supported by the Shrewton Silver Band (2018 National Finalists) who will provide accompanying musical entertainment. We will also combine firing blanks with music as a finale to the event.

Veterans are encouraged to wear their beret and cap badge and any Gunner memorabilia. Tea/coffee and refreshments will be available.

Please book your place by sending attendees name(s), service number, email address, contact number and vehicle registration to jt@royalartillerymuseum.com.

This will enable easy access to the barracks while maintaining the security of the Royal Artillery Barracks, Larkhill. Places will be limited so please book early for a great day out.

Please feel free to share this invitation with others who may be interested in attending this event.
